Tips to prolong life span of air conditioner

Air conditioners play a vital role not only in hot summer’s but also in chilled winter to warm the room. Therefore it is very important to take good care of them so that they work longer life span. Precautions to be taken to extend the life span of ac are:-

1. Replacing/cleaning of filter:

The most important maintenance task that will enhance the efficiency of your air conditioner is to regularly replace or clean its filters. Clogged, dirty filters will block normal air flow and reduce a system’s efficiency significantly. Cleaning filters will ensure the air conditioner has an easy airflow in & out without straining to push it through the clogged filters. This boosts the life span of the air conditioner for more than 15 years.

2. Regular maintenance:

Every electric equipment requires regular maintenance because it not only promotes appliance last longer but also saves power consumption.

3. Use fans:

When the climate is moderately warm, a fan is enough to keep us comfortable. Fit a fan nearby a window, make sure you choose a window on the shady side of the room so that you can draw in cool air.

4. Clean Drain line:

AC unit will remove moisture from your rooms. If you flush 1 cup of bleach or chlorine down your air conditioner drain and rinse it with water so that the drain gets cleaned. Otherwise, by using a safety switch that will shut your air conditioner down in the event of water back up into the system this can save the drain to be blocked & overflows.

5. Clean the coils:

The coils also require occasional inspection. If these delicate aluminum parts bend out of shape, they can block the air flow. Huge problems develop with dirty coils, your A/C’s efficiency can drop its performance & breakdowns may occur. Apart from this unit consumes high energy, reduces heat transfer & buildup of ice on coils. To avoid this you should minimize dirt, debris & cleaning the area around the coil. Trimming foliage back at least 2 feet allows airflow around the condenser.

6. Give rest to air conditioner:

AC’s are continuously used in commercial spaces where they tend to wear out quickly. So it is very important to turn off unit periodically or when is no requirement. you can turn the thermostat a minimum of 5 degrees to allow the unit to stay on, but not to cool the air. Otherwise, you can also turn up the thermostat at night. Both these techniques will help to prolong the life of your AC unit because it will not be running day in & day out without a break.

7. Window seals for room AC:

During the start of each winter season, examine the seal between the air conditioner and window frame to ensure it makes contact with the unit’s metal case. Moisture can damage this seal, allowing cool air to escape from your room.

8. Hiring a professional:

When your air conditioner needs more than regular maintenance, hire a skillful professional service technician so that he will troubleshoot your ac and solve the particular issue that you are facing with.
